How to Make Decorated Flint Corn Cookies

There's not a lot I wouldn't do to get out of mopping on Saturday mornings. Yes. We only mop once a week. Please don't judge me all you mop-loving people out there. You may have heard , I have this uh , condition where my arm falls off when in contact with a mop...Apparently it's a thing. The ever elusive "they" think it might be caused by all the inorganic food I eat. My husband says it's because I stay up too late making cookies. But really... there's no easy way to know the real cause of my mopping aversion. It will always be one of those great life mysteries....like why doesn't glue stick to the inside of the bottle or why do you get hiccups 3 seconds after the baby FINALLY FALLS ASLEEP for the first time in seven and a half days.

But as it turns out , something happened last Saturday during the "weekend cleanse" portion of my Saturday morning. It was big. Like....HUGE. I will never be the same again. My life was irrevocably changed. My 9 year old male child decided that he was capable of mopping. And he offered to mop EVERY SATURDAY MORNING if I would pay him $2. You guys. I gave him $3 and didn't even check to see if he got the shiny spots under the table from the spilled breakfast milk.

I don't really know what to do with all my free time now. I mean...I don't have to spend hours trying to justify my inability to mop my own floors on a regular basis. No more pretending that I'm going to do it , while really I'm just hiding out "doing laundry" and hoping that somehow that floor will grow up and just mop itself. All of that...it's just GONE. I would say that I have a void in my life , but really what I have is a Rolling Stones tribute band in my heart playing , "I'm Free" and a whole bunch of extra time to make cookies. (And by "a whole bunch" I , of course mean , "at least 17 solid minutes.) (I'll take what I can get.) I'm sure it comes as a great big , giant surprise that I've used that time to make more cookies. I really didn't think I'd have time for a second set of Thanksgiving cookies this year....but my miracle mopping child came to my rescue!

Thanksgiving cookie decorating tutorials

1. Outline and fill a leaf shape on the bottom left of the cookie with a medium consistency yellow icing and a #3 tip. Let it dry for at least 15 minutes.
2. Outline and fill the leaf on the other side of the cookie. Let it dry for an hour.
3. Pipe the cob part of the corn with a medium consistency tan icing and a #3 tip. Immediately add an random array of colored dots of icing all over the place. Shake or tap a couple of times to smooth out the icing. You can let it dry or just move right on to the next step.
4. Put a #2 tip on the yellow icing and add fun details to the leaves. Do not add boring details.
