How To Make Decorated Firecracker Sugar Cookies for the 4th of July

Use this tutorial to turn a bouquet cutter into a fun decorated firecracker sugar cookie!

Something awful is happening at my house , late at night , when no one is watching. I didn't even realize it was going on for months.

I never thought it could happen to me.

I took NONE of the necessary precautions. I lived my life without a SECOND of thought of prevention. I was so foolish. And now I have only myself to blame.

Don't be like me.

Treat your couplers well. Be nice to them. LOVE THEM. Tell them how much you really appreciate them. Take them on a spa day every now and then "just because" and not as an apology. Because one of these days , you're going to realize that all of your rings are disappearing. They are leaving you. And you'll never get them back.

I don't even know where my rings have gone. I can't go crawling to them , asking them to forgive me. I'll never get that second chance to truly make them feel loved. And while I mourn the loss of those rings and truly , truly wonder how in THE WORLD I have ended up with only 5 rings for my 27 coupler bases , I also just feel bad that those missing rings will never know how much I need them.

I can't keep going like this. Something has to change.

Probably that something will be buying 400 million new couplers. But then I'll have to live with the guilt of deciding which of the 27 bases I have to toss because they don't have a companion ring to go with them. How am I supposed to make a decision like that?! Especially right on the heels of finding out that the rings just didn't feel loved. I'm going to need therapy.

Probably cookie therapy. Or maybe setting things on fire therapy.

I suppose I could probably make-do with these firecracker cookies.

How to make Independence Day decorated sugar cookies!!

1. Use thick black icing and a #2 tip to outline the firecracker. Add some stripe if you like. Let it dry for at least 4 hours.
2. Grab some medium consistency white icing with a #3 tip. Outline and fill the background of the cookie.
3. With a #2 tip and different colors of medium consistency icing , fill in the stripes. Place them immediately in front of a fan or dehydrator to minimize any possible cratering. Give them at least 15 minutes of dry time.
4. Put a #1.5 tip on that thick black icing and pipe a fuse.
5. Grab some thick red and blue icing with a #1.5 tip and pipe some swirly lines all over the place. I find it easiest to keep my tip a couple of inches above the cookie and just let the icing fall down into gentle loops. Add some little dots of icing for sparks and.... DONE!!!
