I almost cleaned my kitchen last week. For real. It very nearly happened. I got out the mop and everything...but I never made it past the pantry. A few shopping trips worth of canned food that I had saved to "put away later" stopped pretty much stole all my motivation.
Seriously though , is there a person on the planet that still has energy to put away their groceries once they've driven to the store...walked around it 7 times because you keep forgetting everything and your list is entirely UNorganized...and you have to lift all that food onto the counter and then back into your cart...and then you had to find a bathroom because *someone* can't make it through the 4 1/2 minute drive home...and then when you finally make it back home , you have to carry all those bags of groceries inside and up some stairs while dodging children who apparently can't even carry themselves up those stairs after all that grocery store walking. I always try to carry all the bags inside at the same time. I'll load my arms up with like 7 bags and then clench my hands together so they don't fall off. I'm sure it's super productive because I almost always trip on one of those stair-lying children and very nearly send all the groceries back to the bottom of the stairs again. (Look - I think it's pretty clear that I don't always make the "smart" choices or the "choices that sane people make".) Gah. By that point , I've got just enough energy to put away the food that has to go in the fridge and freezer and then lie down on the couch with the ice cream. You know , because I underestimated the amount of space I have in my freezer. And I'm not about to let that ice cream go to waste.
So I save my canned goods for later. And then never put them away because I can't stand trying to make one can balance on top of another. WHAT HAPPENED TO CANS THAT NESTLE INSIDE EACH OTHER??!!! I swear I used to live in a world where the top of the can was just slightly wider than the bottom of the can so that two cans could stand on top of each other without the fear that one of them would topple over in the middle of the night , terrifying me and my children and pretty well convincing me that we never ever need mandarin oranges in our lives ever again. Who decided to do away with that very brilliant and completely functional design?! Because I would like them to come organize my pantry. It's clearly not going to organize itself. And I'm not going to do it. I value my life. And my toes. And also my time. If we're being perfectly honest...I'd rather be making cookies.
Like these cloud cookies. It's a new cutter that Ann Clark Cookie Cutters sent me. And I've got to admit...I like it more than I thought I would. Poor clouds. They are always the enemy. I've decided to fight for them. They will be my project design. I'll hang out with them and show them that life can be better. And basically force cloud cookies into every set I make this fall. Come on...everyone likes an underdog , right? Make some with me. They are super easy.
1. Outline and flood the entire cookie white. Let the icing dry overnight.
2. Put some blue food color and purple food color on a paint palette or plate. (I used royal blue and regal purple.) Grab a wide brush and get it wet. Pick up some of the food color with the damp brush. Tap on a paper towel if the brush is too wet. It should be damp but not dripping. Tap it around the edges of the cloud. Then dry the brush completely and continue tapping around the edge of the cookie to blend the food coloring towards the center.
3. Pipe a loopy outline with thick blue food coloring and a #1.5 tip. I like to add some extra curves to the bottom of the cloud , but it's your cookie. You can do whatever you like with it. Draw a dotted line inside each of the piped curves with a blue food color marker.
